Voltage Character Design

Voltage – Character Design Exploration
This project dives into the character development of Voltage (Dennis Cooper), a 17-year-old genius and one of the most important heroes of my comic universe. This week of Home Slice Creative content focused on breaking down the design process, from early concepts to final renderings, while capturing both the emotional weight of his story and the visual identity of a superhero as cool as Voltage.

Concept & Ideation:
Voltage’s design began with silhouette studies, exploring the visual language of speed, dorkiness, and youth. I wanted his form to read instantly as fast, techy, and a bit offbeat. Each silhouette pushed proportions and posture to find the perfect balance between agility and power.

Symbol & Suit Design:
Voltage’s lightning bolt emblem evolved from a raw emotional place—it represents both the energy that changed his life and the burden he carries. The suit design focuses on sleek, functional tech, with a bright electric blue core, offset by dark blues and white accents to add contrast and depth. Large pink lenses offer a pop of unexpected color while hinting at a more playful side that Dennis hides under layers of guilt and grief.

Final Design:
Voltage is more than just a suit—he’s a symbol of regret, redemption, and responsibility. His design tells the story of a kid caught between worlds: the genius who changes the future and the boy who just wants his family back. Every element in this final design is built to support the narrative of a character who isn’t just fast—he’s running from his past.
Thanks for checking out my work! If you're into character-driven design, original superhero storytelling, or just love a fresh take on hero archetypes, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
